Continuous Monitoring of Water Levels in a Water Collector in Hungary

About our client

The customer is a water utility operator in Hungary responsible for monitoring water infrastructure a pump station. Their primary need was reliable, continuous monitoring of water levels in a water collector in order to ensure safe and efficient operation of the pumping system.
The customer required accurate and verifiable level measurements that could be easily compared with existing systems. At the site, there was already:

  • a conventional water meter,
  • a computerized level measurement system used by the utility.

PROBLEM TO SOLVE / TASK

This existing infrastructure created a strong requirement for any new device to deliver data consistent with current measurements, allow easy cross-validation of readings, and build confidence among technical staff before wider rollout.

The customer also needed a solution that could be installed quickly and without disrupting operations, deployed in harsh utility environments (humidity, confined spaces, proximity to pumps), and operated remotely, reducing the need for manual inspections.

SOLUTION

Hydropolisz Kft has implemented an NB-IoT water level logger that utilizes a submersible pressure sensor to accurately measure the height of the water column in a well or borehole.

This device is specifically designed for remote monitoring. It employs Narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) technology to wirelessly transmit the collected water level data directly to a cloud-based platform for storage, visualization, and analysis. This approach ensures low power consumption and wide area coverage, making it ideal for deployment in remote or underground locations. Users can utilize a free mobile application to easily configure the device and locally read historical data stored in its internal memory. This capability allows for the creation of a complete remote monitoring system.

The device equipped with a 15m probe was installed in the pipe marked in red

RESULTS

The Efento level meter met the customer’s needs by acting as an independent, wireless monitoring layer that complemented existing metering and SCADA-type systems. The ability to directly compare Efento data with the water meter and computerized level readings enabled the customer to:

  • verify measurement accuracy,
  • validate the reliability of the device in real conditions, and
  • assess suitability for future scaling across additional sites.

Overall, the customer’s underlying need was not only to measure water level, but to increase operational visibility, confidence, and redundancy in critical water infrastructure monitoring, while minimizing installation effort and ongoing maintenance.

Efento system report – includes readings during installation and data after measurements stabilized at a depth of approximately 8500mm, with a deviation of 1mm. The measurements are repeatable.
