Efento NB-IoT wireless soil moisture loggers deliver continuous, precise soil water content and temperature monitoring for smart agriculture and environmental management – from open-field farming, horticulture, and greenhouses to irrigation control systems, specialized crops, and soil health research. Equipped with external 3-meter Watermark soil moisture and temperature probes, it enables accurate deep-soil measurements directly in the ground – even in remote or hard-to-access locations – while providing instant alerts upon sharp moisture increases or critical drops.
By transmitting data directly over the cellular network (Narrowband IoT), the device operates completely independently – requiring no gateways, routers, or local Wi-Fi configuration. The integrated Bluetooth Low Energy interface enables quick, intuitive setup via smartphone in under 15 minutes, while its open architecture ensures seamless integration with Efento Cloud or any third-party IoT platform.

The soil moisture sensor uses an external Watermark probe installed directly in the soil. The probe measures changes in electrical resistance caused by changes in soil water availability. As the soil dries, the measured resistance increases; when soil moisture rises, the resistance decreases. This allows users to monitor soil moisture conditions in the plant root zone and track how quickly the soil dries between irrigation cycles. Measurement data can be viewed in the Efento Logger application as a time-based chart, making it easier to identify moisture trends and plan irrigation more effectively. The sensor measures soil water tension in the range of 0 to 239 kPa (centibars). Lower values indicate wetter soil, while higher values indicate drier conditions. For accurate measurements, the probe should be installed with good contact with the surrounding soil. Before first installation, the probe should be conditioned by repeated soaking and drying cycles and installed while moist. For temperature-compensated measurements, a temperature probe should be installed close to the soil moisture probe, at a similar depth. The data obtained from the probe inform about the degree of soil hydration:
Before first installation:
- Soak the probe in water for 30 minutes, then allow it to dry for 10 hours.
- Repeat the soaking and drying cycle several times.
- Before final installation, leave the probe immersed in water overnight.
- Install the probe while it is still moist.
Edge analytics & smart transmission
The logger can process measurement data locally and optimize when information is transmitted. This helps reduce unnecessary cellular communication and supports long battery life while ensuring important events are reported promptly.Remote configuration & firmware updates

Devices can be supplied with a customer-specific configuration prepared before shipment. Measurement intervals, transmission settings, APN, PLMN, and other parameters can be preconfigured according to project requirements, reducing installation time and simplifying large-scale deployments.Customer-provided SIM cards
The logger can operate with SIM cards supplied by the customer, allowing the use of a preferred local mobile operator and existing connectivity agreements. This gives customers greater flexibility in regions where their own operator provides the best NB-IoT coverage or commercial conditions.Optional IP68 waterproof enclosure
For applications requiring maximum protection against dust and water, the sensor can be supplied in an optional IP68 waterproof enclosure. The enclosure is fully dust-tight and designed to withstand prolonged immersion in water under specified conditions, making it suitable for demanding industrial, outdoor, and high-moisture environments.Multiple temperature probe options
The sensor is compatible with a variety of external temperature probes designed for different applications and installation methods. Available probe types may vary, and custom solutions or cable lengths can be provided on request.

Efento Cloud for hospitals – safety, savings and full control

Automated pressure warning systems
Pressure sensors are installed in water, oil, chemical, or compressed air pipelines for continuous pressure monitoring. In the event of a pressure issue, a PLC controller operates a pump or valve to immediately increase or decrease the pressure. However, most pressure sensors only provide control signals and lack alerting capabilities.Is it necessary to archive reports from the Efento system?
Data from temperature loggers used in the storage and transport of vaccines must be kept for at least 5 years. In the case of the Efento system, measurement data from the loggers is stored for 6 years.
