Temperature monitoring in Parisian ice cream parlors

About our client

Ice cream parlors, or “glaceries”, have a long and delicious tradition in Paris. The history of ice cream in Paris dates back to the 17th century. It is said that the Italian-born French queen, Catherine de’ Medici, introduced ice cream to the French court.
What sets many traditional Parisian ice cream parlors apart is their commitment to using the finest ingredients and traditional techniques to create their ice cream. They take pride in crafting small batches of ice cream, often by hand, to maintain the highest quality.

Many traditional ice cream parlors in Paris are located in charming neighbourhoods or historic areas, making the experience of enjoying ice cream in the city even more special. The ambiance of these parlors often adds to the overall experience.

Parisians enjoy ice cream year-round. While it’s a classic summer treat, you’ll find locals and tourists alike savoring a scoop of ice cream or a gelato even in the colder months.

PROBLEM TO SOLVE / TASK

A seamless cold chain is crucial for ice cream parlors to deliver impeccable products that tantalize the taste buds and beat the summer heat. Any deviation in temperature can result in texture changes, melting, and compromising the flavors patrons have come to adore. Equally concerning are equipment failures that can go unnoticed, leading to significant losses of perishable goods.

SOLUTION

Instrumentys has solved the problem by building a temperature monitoring system based on Efento sensors, gateways and Efento Cloud. Two sites where equipped, 16 sensors in total and 2 gateways. The sensors were placed in the cold rooms, ice display cabinets.

Efento’s Bluetooth Low Energy sensors are tiny but mighty devices that act as vigilant temperature monitors. These sensors are strategically placed within the cool chamber, fridge, and ice cream cooling systems of Parisian ice cream parlors. They continuously measure and transmit temperature data in real-time to the Efento Gateway, ensuring every aspect of the cold chain is under surveillance.

Efento Gateway: The Nerve Center
The Efento Gateway serves as the nerve center of this temperature-monitoring ecosystem. Placed within the vicinity, it aggregates the data from all the BLE sensors and securely transmits it to the Efento Cloud platform. This enables ice cream parlor owners and staff to access critical information remotely, round the clock. The Gateway acts as a bridge between the sensors and the cloud, providing a seamless and uninterrupted flow of data.

IoT Platform: Insights and Alerts at Your Fingertips
At the heart of the operation lies the Efento Cloud platform, a user-friendly interface that empowers ice cream parlor owners with real-time insights and actionable data. With a few clicks, they can access comprehensive temperature reports, historical trends, and graphical representations. This data isn’t just about numbers; it’s about ensuring the quality and safety of their products.

The key benefits from implementing the temperature monitoring system include:

  • Remote access to the measurements – users can access the temperature measurements through a web panel or with a free Efento mobile application.
  • Notifications – when the defined alarm thresholds are exceeded, notifications are sent via e-mail, SMS or as a push message in the mobile application.
  • Long maintenance free operations – batteries ensure up to a few years of maintenance free operation
  • Remote configuration – sensor’s configuration can be changed remotely from the cloud platformEfento temperature logger in ice display cabinets

Results

  • Efento’s BLE sensors guarantee that the temperature-sensitive ice creams remain at the perfect temperature at all times. This translates to consistent quality and flavours that patrons have come to expect.
  • Mitigating Losses: By promptly detecting any fluctuations in temperature or equipment malfunctions, ice cream parlors can take immediate action. This minimises the risk of spoilage and waste, saving costs and enhancing profitability.
  • Remote Monitoring: The Efento Gateway and Efento Cloud platform offer the convenience of remote monitoring. Ice cream parlor owners can keep tabs on their establishments from anywhere, ensuring peace of mind and efficient management.
  • Proactive Maintenance: Regular data insights can reveal patterns that point toward potential equipment issues. Timely maintenance and interventions can be scheduled before a catastrophic failure occurs.
  • Regulatory Compliance: In the food industry, adhering to stringent temperature regulations is a must. Efento’s technology aids ice cream parlors in meeting these standards and passing inspections with flying colors.
  • Enhancing Customer Trust: With an unblemished record of maintaining the cold chain, ice cream parlors can build a reputation for quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
