Wireless vineyard monitoring set - Bluetooth Low Energy
Efento vineyard monitoring set, allows to precisely determine the conditions of vegetation of the vines.
Thanks to the measurement and analysis in the mobile application compatible with wireless loggers, user can quickly and conveniently determine such parameters as:
- SAT and GDDC together with the number of active days,
- length of the growing season,
- Huglin index,
- index of cool nights
The advantage of using Efento wireless sensors and the Efento Logger application is the ability to determine the parameters important for viticulture exactly where you plan to plant the crop. Often, the terrain and specificity of the terrain, type of buildings or type of nearby vegetation can have a significant impact on the temperature distribution in a given place. Not every strain will grow properly in given conditions, so when establishing or running a vineyard it is worth checking whether the conditions in this place will be appropriate for the selected strain.
- Temperature: -55 to +125°C, accuracy: up to 0.5°C in the range from -10°C to +85°C and up to 2°C in the range -55 to -125°C
- Measurement period: 1 minute – 10 days (configurable by the user)
- The device stores 40,000 measurements in its memory, when the memory is full, the oldest measurements are overwritten
- Battery ensures up to 5 years of maintenance-free operation
- Add Efento Gateway and Efento Cloud to build a real time monitoring system. The maximum distance between the sensor and the Gateway is 100 m in the open space and 20 – 30 m in the buildings
- Use a free mobile application to configure the logger, read the data from its memory, generate reports and set alert thresholds
Temperature logger with external probe
The wireless logger is equipped with batteries that ensure device’s operations for at least 2 years. Probe should be placed in a place with good airflow and should be protected from the direct sunlight.
A free mobile app
Efento Logger mobile app is available free og charge in Google Play. The manufacturer updates the app, increases the device’s capabilities, without charging any fees.
SAT and GDDC
SAT and GDDC are parameters based on the sum of average daily temperatures, determined throughout the season, calculated as the average temperature value of all days for which it has reached at least 10 degrees Celsius (active days). In the case of GDDC, the product of the number of active days and 10 degrees Celsius shall be subtracted from the received SAT value.
Growing season
LENGTH OF THE GROWING SEASON determines the number of days with average daily temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius. Depending on the variety, the region is generally considered suitable for wine growing, if the LGS value is higher than 182 days.
Huglin's index
HUGLIN’S INDEX is the sum of active temperatures in the period from the beginning of April to the end of September. HI takes into account the length of the day and the average and maximum daily temperatures. It is divided into 6 climate classes, from very cold (HI ≤ 1500) to very warm (HI> 3000). Efento Logger mobile application calculates Huglin’s Index for the precise point, where wine growing is planned, based on the GPS signal.
Cool night index
COOL NIGHT INDEX determines the relative measure of maturation potential, equal to the average minimum temperature during the month before harvesting. In the northern hemisphere: CI = average minimum temperature in September, in the southern hemisphere: CI = average minimum temperature in March.
Installation
Installation of Efento wireless temperature sensor boils down to placing it in a place that prevents its flooding and placing the measuring probe in the cover reducing the impact of sunlight on the temperature measurement (the cover is not part of the set). The device was designed so that everyone could configure it. All you need to set it up is a smartphone with Android system and Efento Logger app installed. In practice

“Natural coverings from the frosty northern and eastern winds have been added to my vineyard with a willow belt from the west.
Thanks to this, it can be considered that the vineyard is located in the so-called “Warm zone” on the south-western slope, with an average slope of 15 °, at a height just below 350 m above sea level.
This is confirmed by the parameters: GDDC and active days in the year, measured with the use of two Efento logger devices, about 100m away.

As you can see, the season 2018 was unusual. If you count GDDC until the time of grape harvest in September, then the parameters would be, respectively, less: GDDC ~ 1500 and active days ~ 175. It’s still a lot.
Without information on the actual GDDC / SAT values and active days, it is difficult to make a decision on the vine species in a particular vineyard.
In addition, any change in the accumulation of a vineyard or cover can be assessed for its impact on habitat conditions. “
Certification of calibration
The external laboratory compares the measurements taken by the sensor with measurements taken by a thermometer with very high accuracy and issues a certificate which confirms that the device measures temperature as it should – the accuracy is in the range declared by the manufacturer. This is required by law in some sectors – e.g. pharmaceutical products monitoring or food monitoring.
We cooperate with ILAC certified laboratory (meets the requirements of PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005) so we can do the calibration for you, calibration certificate will be in English.
Sensor’s passport
Sensor’s passport documents the entire “live” of a device. By accessing the sensor.efento.io website, the user can check all information about it: date of sale, warranty status, date of calibration, information on all service activities. In addition, the user can download all documents regarding his device – a duplicate of calibration certificate or service protocols. The service is available for free.
Data security
Data transmitted wirelessly between the sensor and smartphone/ Efento Gateway can be encoded. Thanks to that unauthorized persons cannot read measuring data, but only devices having the right key can decode measuring data transmitted by the sensor.
Sensors are equipped with the wireless update of the software, what into the simplest manner you will bring them up to date to the latest version.
